Unique. Capable. All-American. These are three things that make the 2016 Jeep Wrangler a pleasing choice for an off-road SUV. If you're looking for a ride that's unstoppable on the trail, you can't go wrong with the Wrangler.
|Engine Size:||3.6 L|
|Fuel Economy:||17/21 mpg|
If you plan to go off road, you're in need of some power. There's just one engine found in the 2016 Wrangler, a 3.6-liter V6. While the six-speed manual transmission is standard, there is also the option of a five-speed assist and hill-descent control. Both of these combos provide off-road-dominant appeal and depending on the model, there's an excellent list of bonus equipment. The Willys, for example, comes with extra off-road hardware, such as chunkier tires and limited-slip differential. Another example is the Rubicon model, which comes with a complete tail rig.
The 2016 Wrangler offers a lineup that includes three trim levels, plus the choice of either two doors or four doors. Both versions are fitted with a vinyl convertible roof, but there is also the option of a hard top with easily-removable panels about the front seats.
The Wrangler Sport starts out the lineup and is as basic as you can get in terms of equipment and features. It comes with 16-inch steel wheels, on/off-road tires, full-size spare tire, skid plates, tow hooks, fog lights and removable doors. Upholstery is cloth and locks, windows, and mirrors are manual. Electronics are fairly sparse, but definitely doable with an eight-speaker sound system, CD player, and auxiliary audio jack.
The mid-range Sahara ads a few upgrades, like automatic headlights, additional painted exterior body panels and trim, plus hood insulation for reduced noise.
For top-line performance, the Rubicon delivers with major off-road equipment. It boasts: 17-inch alloy wheels, 32-inch tires, heavy-duty Dana 44 front axle, shorter 4.10 rear-axle ratio, and upgraded transfer case with lower crawl ratio. It also features electronic front and rear locking differentials, electronically disconnecting front sway bar, rock rails, and under-hood insulation.
There are several special-edition packages based on the Sport and Rubicon trims. The Willys Wheels package features a limited-slip differential, gloss-black 17-inch alloy wheels and exterior trim, plus mud terrain tires, rock rails, and special badging. The Freedom Edition gets upscale exterior styling with special “Granite Crystal” 17-inch alloy wheels and exterior trim. The Rubicon Hard Rock also shows off exterior upgrades, from black 17-inch wheels and exterior trim to Power Dome hood and red tow hooks.
